English
is one of the most widely spoken languages. It is probably the only language
which is spoken in all continents of the world. Although India is a
multi-lingual country having 22 official languages, English remains an associate official
language. It is widely used in communication. English acts as the link-language
in our country.
In the present world scenario a fairly high degree of
proficiency in English and excellent
communication skills enhance students job opportunities. Hence governments and
educational institutions give greater importance for the development
of communication skills of the students
and offer courses in this area.
In Kerala our school
curriculum clearly focuses on the development of communication skill in day to
day life. There have been positive changes in the profile of English classrooms
in primary classes in Kerala since the introduction of the revised curriculum. The confidence level of learners and teachers in using English has gone up considerably. However ,there are
a few concerns that need to be addressed including the low proficiency level
of teachers and learners. Keeping this in view we have envisaged the concept of English
Fest in all schools
Objectives
o
To
enhance the proficiency level of learners in English language
o
To
explore end employ new and effective strategies for using the language for
communication
o
To
cultivate a warm and friendly
atmosphere in the English classrooms thereby strengthening the student teacher relationship.
o
To
inspire the learners to develop a social outlook by mingling with the society.
o
To make the learners aware of the social issues
at large.
o
Organic
development of language in natural situations
o Stimulating the imaginative
capacity of students leading them to the new realms of fantasy and creativity

conduct….
English fest is conducted in
Four levels-
o
School
level
o
CRC
level
o
BRC
level
o
District
level.
School Level-one/two days celebration at the end of CONTINUOUS
CLASSROOM activities
o
Activity package of the English fest should be
performed in each and every class rooms.
o
Selected
items could be presented in one day English fest.
o
Ensure
the active participation of Students, Teachers, LSG members, PTA, MPTA members,
parents, Office bearers of village libraries, SSG members etc.
o
Language
Exhibition is to be conducted.
CRC level-One day celebration
o
Presentation
of selected items from the school level
o
Ensure
the active participation of Students, Teachers, LSG members, PTA, MPTA members,
parents, Office bearers of village libraries etc.
